Access Behavioral Health Care Resources

At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX), we believe that having access to behavioral health services can make a positive and often profound difference in our members’ lives.

As a reminder, there are many other online resources to help address behavioral health in your practice. BCBSTX recommends the following:

  • Magellan HealthcareSM
Many times, primary care physicians (PCPs) are the first place a member goes when they have a problem. Our behavioral health partner, Magellan, provides a toolkit for medical providers to guide patients to appropriate care. The online toolkit gives medical practitioners the information and screening tools needed to assist in making behavioral health referrals. The toolkit is also available on BCBSTX’s Medicaid Clinical Resources web page.
  • Mentalhealthtx.org
As PCP’s concerns rise about screening and treating behavioral health, mentalhealthtx.org provides resources such as a Behavioral Health Resource Guide for School-aged Children. Other resources help increase awareness of educational opportunities, services and support for school-aged children with mental and behavioral health needs.
  • Texas Health Steps (THSteps)
Mental health screenings for behavioral, social and emotional development are required at each THSteps checkup for patients from birth to 20 years old. On the THSteps website, you can find information on anticipatory guidance for mental health screenings, questionnaires to use during THSteps checkups and other resources that may be beneficial to your practice.
