Preventive Care Guidelines and Clinical Practice Guidelines Updates

Preventive Care Guidelines (PCGs) and Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) are adopted by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) and comprise the foundation for Wellness and Condition Management Programs. These guidelines are based on established evidence-based standards of care, publicized by specialty societies and national clinical organizations. Review the newest updates below.

Preventive Health Guidelines 2019 Updates

  • Immunization Tables
  • The following guidelines were updated to include information from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force:
    • Screening for Alcohol Misuse
    • Screening for Tobacco Use
    • Screening for Intimate Partner Violence
    • Syphilis Serology
    • Prevention of Falls in Community Dwelling for Older Adults

Clinical Practice Guideline Changes for 2019

  • Diabetes Mellitus
  • COPD
  • Asthma

The CPGs are recommendations not intended to substitute for sound independent medical judgement of health care practitioners.

BCBSTX reviews the clinical practice guidelines annually. BCBSTX updates CPGs to reflect new advances in evidence-based practice and standards of care. The BCBSTX Clinical Quality Committee is responsible for reviewing and approving all updated CPGs and PCGs and for posting updates to BCBSTX provider and member websites.
