Negotiations with Medical City Healthcare in North Texas Nearing the End

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) continues to attempt to reach new agreements with Medical City Healthcare (Medical City), part of HCA Healthcare, a Nashville-based, for-profit operator of health care facilities in 21 states. We want to keep Medical City’s 22 facilities in North Texas in our provider networks.

While we continue to negotiate in good faith, we are unable to make much progress. To date, Medical City is unwilling to accept our reasonable offers to remain in BCBSTX networks. Medical City wants to restrict our customers’ ability to design health plans based on cost and quality. Additionally, Medical City continues to demand unreasonably high rate increases that would burden our members with additional, unnecessary costs with no guarantee of better health outcomes. This is unwarranted and unacceptable.

An agreement must be reached by April 1, 2019, or the Medical City facilities will no longer be in our Par Plan, Blue Choice PPOSM, Blue Essentials HMOSM, Medicare Advantage PPOSM or Medicare Advantage HMOSM provider networks. The Blue Advantage HMOSM network is not part of this negotiation.

If Medical City leaves our networks, our members will still have access to many in-network hospitals and health care facilities throughout the area. To find them, members can:

Members being treated for a pregnancy, disability, acute condition or life-threatening illness may have continuity-of-care benefits. This means they may still be able to see their current doctor at Medical City facilities even if these facilities are no longer in network. Benefits for continuity of care are applied based on benefit plans. Members can call the number on their ID card for more information.
