CHANGES TO YOUR MEDICAL PLAN
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas to Manage Your Mental
Health Care Services
Effective September 1, 2020, BCBSTX will manage mental health benefits for all HealthSelect participants, replacing Magellan Healthcare®1. Your benefits (deductibles, copays and coinsurance) and eligible services for mental health and substance use will not change as a result of this transition.
Most providers who were in network for Magellan will also be in the HealthSelect network. If you or a covered dependent are currently seeing an in-network mental health provider for outpatient office visits (counseling, therapy, psychiatric care, etc.), and your provider will no longer be in the HealthSelect network after September 1, your HealthSelect plan offers a 90-day grace period. This means that from September 1, 2020 through November 30, 2020, your claims for covered services with the out-of-network provider will continue to be paid at the in-network benefit level. To get the most of your benefits and keep your out-of-pocket costs lower, you are encouraged to find an in-network provider during this 90-day grace period.
Visit Provider Finder® or call a BCBSTX Personal Health Assistant to check if your current provider (s) will be in the HealthSelect network on September 1, 2020. If you see out-of-network providers, your out-of-pocket costs could be a lot higher.
Diagnostic Mammogram Benefits
Effective September 1, 2020, for participants in HealthSelect of Texas plans, in-network diagnostic mammograms will be covered with no out-of-pocket cost when you use an in-network provider, the same as preventive screening mammograms. If your provider recommends a diagnostic mammogram, you don’t need a referral or
prior authorization. For Consumer Directed HealthSelect participants, you must first meet your deductible, and then you pay 20% of the approved charges for diagnostic mammograms.
HealthSelectShoppERSSM
Effective September 1, 2020, you will be able to participate in HealthSelectShoppERS, a new program that allows HealthSelect participants to save money and earn TexFlex flexible spending account (FSA) rewards when shopping for certain medical services and procedures.
Access to HealthSelectShoppERS is integrated into Provider Finder. Use Provider Finder to search online for procedures and see your estimated out-of-pocket costs at different in-network providers. HealthSelectShoppERS rewards you for making cost-effective choices. More information about this exciting new program is on page 5 of this guide.
New Medical ID Cards
This year, all HealthSelect participants will get new medical ID cards with updated mental health benefits information. Expect to get your new card in the mail by mid-August. Be sure to show your new ID card to your health care providers when you visit on September 1 or after.
1 Until the contract ends, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas will continue to contract with Magellan Behavioral Health, Inc. (“Magellan”), an independent company administering BCBSTX managed mental health program.
