Preventive Care Without the Hassle
Members enrolled in Medicare Advantage can elect an in-home health assessment as part of their plan’s benefits. An IHA can be viewed as a “bonus” preventive checkup that treats a member’s whole-health needs from the comfort of their home. These appointments should not replace PCP care but do offer members an additional check-up at no cost. We’ve contracted with two vendors, Signify Health and Matrix Medical Network, to administer IHAs.
What can members expect?
All MA members are eligible for this service, including MMAI and D-SNP members. However, we do not communicate to or contact the entire Medicare population. Instead, we strategically target individual members who would benefit most from this service. A Signify Health or Matrix professional will reach out to these identified members by phone to schedule an IHA.
During the appointment, a nurse practitioner or doctor will check vital signs, screen for common health issues, review medical history and address health concerns. Additionally, IHAs include a walkthrough of members’ homes with a focus on evaluating safety measures. Visits usually last an hour.
After the visit, the member will receive a comprehensive care plan. The care plan includes a summary of the appointment and health recommendations for discussion with a PCP.
Note: Participation does not affect the member’s health plan coverage. There is no cost for the visit.
Why do we provide IHAs?
An IHA can detect health issues early. This is critical for members who do not visit a doctor regularly. Even if they do maintain regular doctor visits, members will still benefit from a yearly IHA.
Plus, IHAs help us secure information on our Medicare members that can improve risk adjustment and Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) quality results.
