Some Legacy Plans to be Discontinued in 2025
Applies to small, mid-market groups
What to Know: At the end of September, we will begin sending discontinuation notices to group administrators and employees of some legacy accounts whose plans will no longer be available in 2025. We will continue sending notices to groups 90 days in advance of their renewal date throughout the year.
Background: In 2024, strategy teams reviewed the existing portfolio for older plans, known as “Legacy plans.” These plans are also known as “Grandfathered,” and “Transitionary.” The plans identified for discontinuation were chosen to maintain the overall efficiency of the legacy portfolio.
Discontinued Plans: For affected groups, the 2025 Renewal Exhibit will suggest a plan similar to their current plan. They will also have the option to select from other options at least 30 days prior to their renewal date. See relevant documents below.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why are we discontinuing these plans?
A: To maintain the overall efficiency of the legacy portfolio.
Q: Will the plans automatically be mapped to new ones?
A: The 2025 renewal exhibit will suggest a new similar plan. However, groups can also choose from other plans that meet their company's needs. Groups will be automatically enrolled in the suggested plan if they don’t choose another option at least 30 days before their renewal date.
Q: When will groups be notified?
A: Discontinuance letters will be mailed to impacted groups 90 days prior to their renewal date. The letter will inform them that their current plan(s) will not be available for renewal in 2025, but other options will be available.
Q: What about employees?
A: Per regulatory requirements, notices will be sent to the employees of affected employer groups. This notice will inform them that their current plan(s) will no longer be available, and their employer will have new plan options at the time of their 2025 renewal. These notices will be mailed at the same time as the employer notices.
Q: Is this a one-time mailing?
A: It is a one-time mailing per employer/employee. We will send the first mailing for impacted January employers/employees at the end of September. We will continue sending notices at least 90 days prior to employers' renewal dates each month for the next 12 months.
