Southwestern Health Resources Leaves BCBSTX Networks
Applies to all markets
Our contracts with Southwestern Health Resources in North Texas expired on April 1, 2025. During the past several months, we worked closely with SWHR to try to negotiate new contracts. Unfortunately, we couldn’t reach agreements that protect the interests of our members and customers.
As of April 1, 2025, SWHR doctors, health care professionals, facilities and hospitals − including Texas Health Resources and UT Southwestern – are no longer in the following networks:
ParPlan
Blue Choice PPOSM
Blue EssentialsSM
Blue Advantage HMOSM
Medicaid
Blue Cross Medicare Advantage (PPO)SM
Blue Cross Medicare Advantage (HMO)SM
SWHR doctors and hospitals will remain in the MyBlue HealthSM network.
Blue Cross Group Medicare Advantage Open Access (PPO)SM members can continue to see SWHR providers if the provider agrees to see the member, accepts Medicare assignment and will submit the claims to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas.
Impacted hospitals and facilities: For a list of hospitals and facilities that are now out-of-network, visit bcbstx.com/swhr.
Finding in-network care: Members continue to have access to in-network doctors and hospitals throughout North Texas. We’re here to help members find quality, cost-effective in-network care. Members can check for options by:
Visiting Find Care on bcbstx.com or their provider directory
Calling the customer service number on their member ID card
Care for ongoing conditions: Members being treated for a pregnancy, disability, acute condition or life-threatening illness may have continuity of care benefits. This means they may still be able to receive care at in-network rates from SWHR doctors and facilities. To find out if they are eligible, members can call the number on their ID card for more information.
