WHAT IS THE WAIVER PERIOD?

The waiver period is a great opportunity for your small business to purchase health care coverage for your team. The waiver period begins Nov. 1 and ends Dec. 15. If you purchase coverage during this time, you can take advantage of potential savings and additional flexibility:

No Minimum Contribution Requirements

Normally, businesses are required to contribute a minimum amount toward their employees’ premiums. During the waiver period, there are no minimum contribution requirements.

No Minimum Participation Requirements

If you purchase coverage outside the waiver period, a minimum number of your employees must enroll in the health plans offered. During the waiver period, there is no minimum number of employees required to enroll.

Who Qualifies for Small Business Health Coverage Options?

To qualify for group coverage as a small business, your company needs between two and 50 full-time employees (including the owner). A full-time employee is defined as someone that works at least 30 hours per week. Some states have additional guidelines as to who qualifies as a full-time employee and have minimum participation requirements. For guidance on other qualifiers, call 1-833-923-1785.

If you purchase insurance during the waiver period (November 1, 2023 through December 15, 2023) participation requirements are waived.

Essential health benefits are included in every health plan, no matter which plan you choose. The Affordable Care Act requires these benefits to be included in all individual, family, and employer-sponsored plans. What Documents Do You Need to Enroll in Small Business Health Insurance?

Most recent Texas Employer’s Contribution and Wage Report (Form UI 3/40)
When applicable for partners or shareholders, one of the following documents can be used:

Most recent Federal Tax Schedule C (Form 1040)
Most recent Federal Tax Return (Form 941)
Most recent Schedule K-1 (Form 1120-S or 1065)

If the previous documents are not available, the following may be considered as alternatives:

Payroll Report
Employee’s W-4
Employee’s W-2
