Overpayments to Be Corrected Using Auto-recoupment
Beginning Aug. 1, 2018, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) will use auto-recoupment for claims overpayments not reimbursed back to BCBSTX within the time period specified in the Applicable Laws section of the provider’s BCBSTX agreement.

The rendering provider National Provider Identifier (NPI) will be required on all professional and institutional managed care claims as of Sept. 1, 2018. Otherwise, Managed Care Organizations (MCO) will begin denying claims with dates of service on or after Sept. 1, 2018, for non-compliance. Information, including FAQs, on this requirement can be found on the Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership website. All providers who were not required to include this information in the past must now follow this process. Please review this additional information to understand how the new requirement may impact claims filing.
New Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) Review Process
BCBSTX is now reviewing reason codes and free text based on EVV policy guidelines. If any discrepancies or misuse are found, your agency will be contacted by BCBSTX before any recoupments, liquidated damages or contract actions are taken. Be sure you are up to date on EVV changes and information. Recent posts can be found on the BCBSTX EVV page and notifications are on the Texas Health and Human Services site.
